A mature man in professional attire smiling in an office setting.

I spent two hours last week looking at websites for local businesses in Vernal, Roosevelt, and Duchesne.

Not to judge. Not to sell anything. Just to see what’s actually out there.

And here’s what I found: Most businesses are leaving customers on the table without even knowing it.

Not because their websites are ugly. Not because they need a $10,000 redesign. But because of small, fixable mistakes that are costing them calls, appointments, and walk-ins every single day.

Below are five real examples from the Uinta Basin. I’ve changed the business names, but the problems are 100% real. See if any sound familiar.

Case #1: The Restaurant With No Menu on Mobile

Business type: Family diner in Vernal
The problem: Their website looks fine on a computer. On a phone, the menu is a PDF that requires pinching, zooming, and three extra taps to read.

What it’s costing them: Takeout orders. Specifically, the lunch crowd. People on a 30-minute break don’t have time to wrestle with a PDF. They go somewhere else.

The fix: Convert the menu to simple HTML text on the website. No PDFs. No downloads. Just readable text that works on any screen.

Estimated impact: 5–10 additional takeout orders per week

Case #2: The HVAC Company With a Buried Phone Number

Business type: Heating and air contractor serving all of Uintah County
The problem: Their phone number is at the bottom of the homepage in light gray text. On mobile, it’s even smaller. A visitor has to scroll past three paragraphs of “about us” text to find it.

What it’s costing them: Emergency calls. When someone’s furnace goes out in January, they don’t want a story. They want a phone number. If they can’t find it in 3 seconds, they call the next name on Google.

The fix: Move the phone number to the top of every page. Make it big. Make it tappable.

Estimated impact: 3–5 more emergency service calls per week during peak seasons

Case #3: The Lodge With No Online Booking

Business type: Small lodge near the Ashley National Forest
The problem: Their website shows beautiful photos of cabins. Then it says “Call for availability.” That’s it. No calendar. No pricing. No way to book after 5 PM.

What it’s costing them: Weekend bookings from out-of-town visitors who plan trips at night. They call, get voicemail, and book somewhere else that has online reservations.

The fix: Add a simple booking calendar. It doesn’t need to be fancy. Even a Google Calendar with available dates and a “Call to book” button is better than nothing.

Estimated impact: 2–4 additional bookings per week during summer and hunting seasons

Business type: Outdoor gear shop in Roosevelt
The problem: They have an online store, sort of. But six of their most popular product links lead to “Page Not Found” errors. They didn’t know because nobody told them.

What it’s costing them: Direct sales. A customer clicks “buy now” and hits a dead end. In most cases, they don’t call. They just assume the business is closed or unreliable.

The fix: Run a simple broken link check once a month. Fix or remove any dead pages. Test the checkout process personally every two weeks.

Estimated impact: 10–15 lost sales per month recovered

Case #5: The Medical Clinic With the Wrong Google Maps Pin

Business type: Small health clinic in Duchesne
The problem: Their website has the correct address. But Google Maps shows their pin one block away, behind a different building. New patients follow the pin, get confused, and sometimes give up.

What it’s costing them: New patient intake. First impressions matter. If someone can’t find you on the first try, they may not try a second time.

The fix: Claim the Google Business Profile and correct the pin location. This takes 10 minutes but most business owners don’t know it’s possible.

Estimated impact: 2–4 more new patients per month who actually show up

The One Thing All 5 Businesses Have in Common

None of them needed a brand new website.

None of them needed custom animations, a blog, or a social media feed.

They needed someone to spot small, obvious problems and fix them.

That’s what I do. I’m not here to sell you a $10,000 redesign you don’t need. I’m here to help Basin businesses find what’s broken and fix it—fast, affordable, and without the fluff.

Could This Be You?

Read through the five cases again. Do any of them sound familiar?

  • Menu hard to read on your phone?
  • Phone number buried somewhere weird?
  • Customers confused about how to book?
  • Links or buttons that don’t work?
  • Wrong address on Google Maps?

If you answered yes to even one, you’re losing customers right now.
